Shelia's Kiddie Cottage

                                                                    MEALS AND SNACKS

Shelia’s Kiddie Cottage participates in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).  This Federal Food Program gives us a set of standards for meal preparation and service that ensures the most nourishing, safe, child appropriate menus possible for your child in our care.  All menus are posted and based on the Federal Food Program guidelines.

Important skill development takes place during snack and meal time (e.g., independent feeding with and without utensils, drinking from an open cup, following directions, problem solving, making choices, communication, turn taking).    Food from home is not allowed unless it is for a birthday celebration or special occasion and is shared with all the children.  We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday at school.  If you would like to do this, please let one of the teachers know so we can plan for the celebration.  Families can bring a cake, cupcakes, and/or muffins, any of your child’s favorite foods.  We will sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY after the afternoon planned snack at 2:30, and then eat the special celebration snack with our friends.  Family and friends are encouraged to come and participate in the fun!

Information related to children’s diets, special feeding procedures, and preferences is requested.  Families will receive a monthly calendar that lists daily breakfast, lunch and snacks, classroom planned play activities, birthdays, parties, assessment schedules, family conferences, and other information.
